Question form: Had+ Subject + been + present participle(ing) + object

Some Question form sentences example:

• Had we been eating Burger for two hours?(আমরা কি দুই ঘন্টা ধরে বার্গার খাচ্ছিলাম?)
• Had he been working since morning? (তিনি কি সকাল থেকে কাজ করছেন?)
• Had they been waiting for you? (তারা কি আপনার জন্য অপেক্ষা করছিল?)

ছোট্ট কুইজ:নিচে আরো কিছু বাক্য দেয়া আছে। যেগুলো form/গঠন সূত্র দেখে তোমরা নেগেটিভ এবং প্রশ্নবোধক বাক্য বানিয়ে ফেলো। যেমন, বাক্যে “I will have played football. ” এটা পজেটিভ। আর এটার নেগেটিভ Form করলে হবে ”I will not have played football.”. এবং এটা প্রশ্নবোধক হবে “Will I have played football?”😃

• They had been waiting at the restaurant for over an hour when their food finally arrived. (তারা এক ঘন্টারও বেশি সময় ধরে রেস্তোরাঁয় অপেক্ষা করছিলেন যখন তাদের খাবার শেষ পর্যন্ত পৌঁছেছিল।)
• He had been working on the project for weeks before he realized he needed more help. (তিনি আরও সাহায্যের প্রয়োজন বুঝতে পারার আগে তিনি কয়েক সপ্তাহ ধরে প্রকল্পে কাজ করছিলেন।)

Usage (ব্যবহার):

Past perfect continuous tense এমন একটি ক্রিয়া(Axiom) বর্ণনা করতে ব্যবহৃত হয় যা অতীতে চলমান ছিল বা চলমান ছিল এবং যা অতীতে একটি নির্দিষ্ট সময় পর্যন্ত অব্যাহত ছিল। এটি প্রায়শই ক্রিয়াকলাপের সময়কাল বা যে কার্যকলাপটি ঘটছিল তার গুরুত্বের উপর জোর দিতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।

Examples:

1. I was tired because I had been running for an hour. (আমি ক্লান্ত ছিলাম কারণ আমি এক ঘন্টা ধরে দৌড়াচ্ছিলাম।)
2. They were late because they had been stuck in traffic for two hours. (দুই ঘণ্টা যানজটে আটকে থাকায় তারা দেরি করে।) 
3. The field was muddy because it had been raining all day. (সারাদিন বৃষ্টি হওয়ায় মাঠে কাদা ছিল।)

Some common signal words used with the past perfect continuous tense include “for” and “since”, which indicate the duration of the action.

1. For: She had been playing the piano for two hours before she stopped to take a break. (তিনি বিরতি নিতে থামার আগে দুই ঘন্টা ধরে পিয়ানো বাজাচ্ছিলেন।)
2. Since: He had been studying Spanish since high school before he finally became fluent. (শেষ পর্যন্ত Fluent বা সাবলীল হওয়ার আগে তিনি হাই স্কুল থেকে স্প্যানিশ অধ্যয়ন করছিলেন।)
3. All day/week/month/year: They had been working on the project all day before they finally finished it. (তারা শেষ পর্যন্ত প্রকল্পটি শেষ করার আগে সারা দিন কাজ করছিল।)
4. By the time: By the time she arrived, he had been waiting for two hours. (সে আসার সময়, সে দুই ঘন্টা অপেক্ষা করেছিল।)
5. How long: How long had you been living in Paris before you decided to move back home? (আপনি বাড়ি ফিরে যাওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়ার আগে আপনি কতক্ষণ প্যারিসে বসবাস করছেন?)
