ঠিক তেমনি, Conjunction বা সংযোজন হলো বাক্যের সেই connector – যা শব্দ, বাক্যাংশ এবং ধারাগুলোকে একত্রিত করে এবং তাদের মধ্যে সম্পর্ক স্থাপন করে।
ইংরেজি ব্যাকরণে, Conjunction হল সেই শব্দ যা একটি বাক্যের বিভিন্ন অংশকে (words, phrases, clauses) জোড়া লাগায়, ঠিক যেমন এবং, কিন্তু, অথবা, কারণ ইত্যাদি।
Conjunction ব্যবহারের ফলে আমরা:
- দুটি ভাব একসাথে প্রকাশ করতে পারি: “আমি স্কুলে যাবো এবং পড়াশুনা করবো।”
- বৈপরীত্য প্রকাশ করতে পারি: “আমি চা খেতে ভালোবাসি, কিন্তু কফি আমার বেশি পছন্দ।”
- বিকল্প প্রদান করতে পারি: “আপনি কি চা খাবেন নাকি কফি?”
- কারণ ব্যাখ্যা করতে পারি: “আমি বাইরে যাবো না, কারণ বৃষ্টি হচ্ছে।”

In English grammar, A conjunction is a grammatical construction that unites words, phrases, or clauses in a sentence. Conjunctions are used to join two or more elements in a sentence and show the relationship between them.
Some simple examples:
- I like coffee and tea.(আমি কফি এবং চা পছন্দ করি।)
- He is smart but lazy. (তিনি স্মার্ট কিন্তু অলস।)
Do you want pizza or pasta for dinner? (আপনি কি রাতের খাবারের জন্য পিজ্জা বা পাস্তা চান?)
Conjunctions- গুলিকে কয়েকটি বিভাগে ভাগ করা যায়, যার মধ্যে রয়েছে::
1. Coordinating conjunctions:
এটি Same ব্যাকরণগত কাঠামো সম্পন্ন শব্দ(Words), বাক্যাংশ(phrases) বা ধারাগুলি(clauses) যুক্ত করে।
Every word, phrase, or sentence that is coordinated with or equal to another is joined by a coordinating conjunction. Join two elements of equal importance and can be remembered using the acronym FANBOYS (For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So)
বাক্যে ব্যবহৃত Coordinating conjunctions-এর উদাহরণ:
- But: I want to go to the beach, but it’s raining outside. (আমি সমুদ্র সৈকতে যেতে চাই, কিন্তু বাইরে বৃষ্টি হচ্ছে। এই বাক্যে but is Coordinating conjunctions)
- Yet: She is very smart, yet she struggles with math. (সে খুব স্মার্ট, তবুও সে গণিতের সাথে স্ট্রাগল করে। এই বাক্যে yet is Coordinating conjunctions)
- Either: I’m going to buy either the red dress or the blue one. (আমি হয় একটি লাল রঙেরবা নীল রঙের পোশাক কিনতে যাচ্ছি। এই বাক্যে either is Coordinating conjunctions)
- So: He didn’t study for the test, so he failed. (সে পরীক্ষার জন্য পড়াশোনা করেনি, তাই সে ফেল করেছে। এই বাক্যে so is Coordinating conjunctions)
- For: She wants to go to the party, for she loves dancing. (সে পার্টিতে যেতে চায়, কারণ সে নাচতে ভালোবাসে। এই বাক্যে for is Coordinating conjunctions)
- Or: You can have either tea or coffee, but not both. (আপনি চা বা কফি খেতে পারেন, তবে উভয়ই নয়। এই বাক্যে or is Coordinating conjunctions)

2. Subordinating conjunctions:
এটি একটি dependent(পরাধীন) clause কে একটি independent(স্বাধীন) clause এর সাথে যুক্ত করে তাকে বোঝায়।অর্থ্যাৎ একটি independent(স্বাধীন) ধারার সাথে একটি dependent(পরাধীন) ধারা যোগ করে এবং প্রায়শই তাদের মধ্যে একটি কারণ এবং প্রভাব বা সময়ের সম্পর্ক নির্দেশ করে।
Subordinating conjunctions Join a dependent clause to an independent clause, and often indicate a cause-and-effect or time relationship between them.
বাক্যে ব্যবহৃত Subordinating conjunctions-এর উদাহরণ:
- Since: Since it’s raining, we should stay inside.(যেহেতু বৃষ্টি হচ্ছে, আমাদের ভেতরে থাকা উচিত। এই বাক্যে Since is Subordinating conjunctions)
- Once: Once you finish your homework, you can play video games. (একবার তুমি তোমার বাড়ির কাজ শেষ করার পরে, তুমি ভিডিও গেম খেলতে পারো। এই বাক্যে Once is Subordinating conjunctions)
- Till: I’ll wait till you come back from the store. (আপনি দোকান থেকে ফিরে আসা পর্যন্ত আমি অপেক্ষা করব।এই বাক্যে Till is Subordinating conjunctions)

- Where: Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. (যেখানে ধোঁয়া, সেখানে আগুন।এই বাক্যে Where is Subordinating conjunctions)
- Although: Although it was cold, she refused to wear a jacket. (যদিও এটি ঠান্ডা ছিল, তিনি একটি জ্যাকেট পরতে অস্বীকার করেন।এই বাক্যে Although is Subordinating conjunctions)
- After: After eating breakfast, I usually go for a walk. (সকালের নাস্তা খাওয়ার পরে, আমি সাধারণত হাঁটতে যাই। এই বাক্যে After is Subordinating conjunctions)

3. Correlative conjunctions:
Ccorrelative conjunction বলতে বোঝায় জোড়া শব্দ যেগুলো পরিপূরক সম্পর্কযুক্ত words, phrases বা clauses কে যুক্ত করে। গুরুত্ব এবং গঠনে সমান উপাদান সংযোগ করতে জোড়ায় ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Correlative conjunctions are used in pairs to connect elements that are equal in importance and structure.
বাক্যে ব্যবহৃত Correlative conjunctions-এর উদাহরণ:
- Weather…or: Whether you like it or not, you have to go to school. (তোমার ভালো লাগুক আর না লাগুক, তোমাকে স্কুলে যেতে হবে। এই বাক্যে whether.or is Correlative conjunctions)
- Not only….but: Not only did she study hard, but she also passed the exam. (তিনি শুধু কঠোর অধ্যয়নই করেননি, তিনি পরীক্ষায় উত্তীর্ণও হয়েছেন। এই বাক্যে Not only…. but is Correlative conjunctions)

- Both…and: Both the father and the son are doctors. (বাবা ও ছেলে দুজনেই চিকিৎসক। এই বাক্যে Both… and is Correlative conjunctions)
